Alithis Family Law
Alithis Family Law is a boutique family law practice in the Twin Cities Area of Minnesota, led by Farhan Hassan, who brings 26+ years of specialized experience to complex divorce and custody matters. After establishing the firm in 2023 following a partnership dissolution, Farhan sought to reposition his practice to better reflect his evolved focus on high-net-worth divorces and complex custody cases.
The Challenge
While the existing website generated significant organic traffic (1,500-2,000 visitors monthly), the firm faced several critical challenges:
- Misaligned Positioning: The website was built on the premise of capturing the entire family law market—anyone needing any family law service. This broad approach no longer reflected Farhan's strategic focus on sophisticated clients facing complex financial matters or high-conflict custody disputes requiring extensive experience.
- Poor Lead Quality: Only a tiny percentage of site traffic converted to prospective clients. Most visitors were simply seeking free information about Minnesota family law basics, resulting in time-consuming consultations with poor-fit clients and diluted messaging that didn't speak to ideal clients.
- Outdated Content Structure: The website featured an overwhelming menu structure with 30+ pages, most containing lawyer-centric reference material rather than client-centered service descriptions. While valuable for SEO, this structure made it difficult for qualified prospects to quickly determine if the firm was the right fit.
- Generic Visual Identity: Though the logo was solid, the overall visual presentation lacked the sophistication and emotional resonance needed to connect with clients facing high-stakes family transitions.
Our Approach
Strategic Discovery & Positioning
We conducted multiple strategy meetings to understand:
- Farhan's practice evolution and ideal client profile
- The firm's core differentiators (financial sophistication, 26 years experience, strategic vs. combative approach)
- Client testimonials revealing what truly mattered to successful clients
- Two distinct target audiences: high-net-worth divorce clients and complex custody clients
Content Strategy Transformation
Rather than competing with general legal reference sites, we repositioned the website to focus on what sophisticated clients actually need to know:
- What does this firm do differently?
- Do they have experience with situations like mine?
- Can I trust them with my financial future and family relationships?
- What's the process and what can I expect?
We restructured content into two clear categories:
- Service pages: Client-centered descriptions of capabilities, experience, and approach
- Resource library: Comprehensive reference material maintained for SEO but not cluttering primary navigation
Visual Identity Evolution
While maintaining the existing logo, we developed a sophisticated new visual system:
Color Palette: We introduced a dark purple as the core brand color to project confidence and calm—a stark contrast to the chaos clients are experiencing.
Typography: Clean, authoritative serif fonts that convey expertise without being intimidating. The strong typographical focus allows content pages to look beautiful with or without images.
Photography Direction: This was crucial. Farhan's target audience is typically in the middle of ugly family drama—high conflict, financial stress, uncertainty. Rather than showing that turmoil, we chose imagery that projects where clients will eventually arrive after working with experienced counsel:
- Peaceful Minnesota nature scenes suggesting clarity and new beginnings
- Single parents interacting positively with children (the "other side" of custody battles)
- Images conveying: "You will get to the other side and it will be OK again"
This aspirational approach resonates emotionally while maintaining the sophistication required for the target market.
Lead Qualification System
We implemented a strategic contact form with optional financial context questions, allowing prospects to self-qualify while giving the firm valuable information before initial contact. This respects both the client's time and the firm's resources.
SEO Preservation Strategy
We carefully mapped all existing URLs, implemented 301 redirects, and migrated valuable blog content to maintain search equity while improving targeting:
- Maintained all high-performing content
- Improved internal linking structure
- Created resource hub for educational content
- Optimized service pages for high-value search terms (high-net-worth divorce, complex custody, etc.)
Project Reflection
This project exemplifies the challenge many professional service firms face: evolving from a generalist approach to specialized positioning while maintaining business continuity. Success required:
- Deep client understanding: Moving beyond demographics to truly understand emotional and practical needs
- Strategic courage: Accepting that attracting fewer but better-qualified leads serves the business better than maximizing traffic
- Content discipline: Resisting the urge to include everything in primary navigation
- Visual storytelling: Using imagery not to show current pain but to project hope and resolution
- Technical precision: Preserving SEO value while restructuring information architecture
The Alithis Family Law website now serves as both a marketing tool and a qualification mechanism—efficiently connecting the right clients with experienced counsel while representing the firm's values of strategic thinking, financial sophistication, and genuine care for clients navigating difficult transitions.
